Why
does my AnyNet connection appear to be slow
There are many factors that can cause AnyNet to appear slow.
Factors such as network traffic, AS/400 usage level, PTF and CUMM
levels all play important roles. We recommend you apply all the
current PTF's from IBM and check CUMM Tape levels to make sure the
AS/400 is up to date.
AnyNet and Direct TCPIP are both reliable links.
One major difference is that with AnyNet you have to have a router
running in order to get a display. With Direct TCPIP you can have
terminal emulation without having a router running. Either link
does not require you to buy additional software for the AS/400.
I
select AnyNet as a link type, but I cant connect to my AS/400.
- Attempt to ping your as/400.
You can ping by going to the DOS window and typing the word PING
followed by the IP address or host name (i.e PING 207.199. 21.8).
If not, TCP/IP may not be installed on the workstation, the TCP/IP
stack may not be Winsock 1.1 compatible, or there may be a network
problem.
- Try applying the patch for the version you
are using from our patch
download page.
- Check to make sure your
configuration of the NS/Router is correct. Check that the IP address
has been entered correctly, or if you are using Host Name, make
sure it is spelled correctly.
- The as/400 may not be configured for AnyNet.

Are
there any updates for the AnyNet link to improve the performance of
the router.
Please download the update from our
update download page.
My
AnyNet connection drops intermittently and I receive an error message
"AnyNet 17 PC sent 5 Keep Alive and No Response from Host".
A. Some of the PTFs
from IBM have caused the as/400 not to send a reply to the Keep
Alive signals sent by the PC. If you have version 2.11 or higher,
you can set the Keep Alive timer manually so it will not disconnect.
To do this:
- Disconnect the session
if active
- Open NS Administrator
- Right click on the router
and choose Properties
- On the Links page, click
on Properties
- Find the Keep Alive Timer
Interval and change the default 3 to 999.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Reconnect to your as/400
if needed.
IBM recommends the following
PTFs to remedy the problem:
V3R1 MF14678
V3R2 MF14679
V3R6 MF14741
V3R7 MF14740
Please contact IBM for more information regarding
this issue.
