1. "Why
isn't it working?"
2. "How do I enter
in my phone card number?"
"Why isn't
it working?"
First, we have to determine the type of problem
it is.
1. Does the modem pick up and dial?
2. Does the modem connect?
3. Does the modem connect, dialer go away, and then just sit there?
If the modem doesn't dial, then make sure that Win95 or NT4.0 recognizes
the modem. The NS/Router uses the Win95/NT4 Telephony Application
Program Interface (TAPI) to access the modem. To configure Win95/NT
to recognize your modem, go to the Control Panel...Modems and make
sure your modem is installed.

listed under Windows 95
Also, you can
verify that Win95/NT is set up correctly by using HyperTerminal
that is included by Microsoft.
If the modem doesn't connect, make sure that the destination modem
is capable of handshaking with yours. For example, make sure you
are not dialing into a modem that supports only a proprietary protocol.
Finally, if the modems do handshake and connect, and nothing more
happens, be sure that the line settings on the AS/400 port that
you're connecting to is set to support 8 data bits, 1 stop bit,
and no parity. Verify this by display the device descriptions for
that port. Settings of *CALC for word length, stop bits, and parity
should be fine.
Another reason for this particular symptom is that you are dialing
into a port that is defined as Synchronus or SDLC. While some modems
may be able to establish a connection, the data transmitted from
either side will be interpreted as garbage by the other.

Any
other conditions should generate an error message of some sort,
such as a security violation due to a bad user id and password,
or device not available, which are usually self-explanatory.
Otherwise, the NS/Router should be able to establish a connection.

How do I enter in my
phone card number?
Phone card information is not configured within
the NS/Router properties. Instead it is found in the Dialing properties
under Control Panel...Modems.
Use the Dial Using Calling Card option
