How much free space is needed to (clean) install 4.5?
20.8 M of free HD space is needed; a total
of 19.8 M of space of files and one extra M to create the setup
temp files during installation.
-
Can setup handle MS DOS multi-boot configuration?
The answer is simply NO. This feature is NOT
implemented in version 4.5
-
Why do I have two Chameleon icon groups after I install 4.5?
I had only one group in 4.01! There is a limitation
of the group *.grp file size in windows (~64k). If
a user is runnng more than 256 colors (say 64k) then 43 icons
with 64k color resolution result in a grp file greater than 64k.
Therefore, setup will automaticly split 43 icons into two groups.
Windows also have a limitation of 50 icons in a group, therefore,
when setup reaches that limit while creating icons, it will split
43 icons into two group also.
-
I notice that all distrubuted OLE2 files go to windows\system
directory, why does setup show install to c:\netmanag while installing?
Setup actually decompresses these files in
the installed directory first and then version check with those
already existing before copying. Therefore, those file are still
being copied to windows\system directory.
-
After I did an upgrade to 4.5, my command line in my mail icon
(or any icons from 4.01) is lost?
4.5 will upgrade the all the icons in ChameleonNFS
group. In order to do this with DDE, setup have to replace the
whole structure of an icon properties and therefore overwrite
the command line. It is a limitation of the DDE.
-
Why is that other desktops such as PCTOOLS can replace icons without
having problems?
Third party desktops defined their own structure
for icons to get around the limitation of DDE.
-
How does setup know I am running MS TCPIP stack?
The detection algorithm is based on the infomation
in protocol.ini. Therefore, even if MS TCPIP stack
is installed but NOT configured, setup will not treat this as
installing to MS TCPIP stack.
-
Will setup work installing on other 3 party TCPIP stack besides
MS TCPIP stack?
The answer is NO. We simply do not support
it in 4.5.
-
How do I install 4.5 on other 3 party TCPIP stack then?
Details are described in the documentation.
- hanges
are made to config.sys
and autoexec.bat, where can I find
the old configuration files?
Refer to the log file, named nmconfig.log,
in the root directory for file changes. Setup (actually custom)
makes backup of both to autoexec.bak and config.bak.
-
Where is my slip.ini? I don't see it in 4.5!?
Starting from 4.5, custom no longer read information
from slip.ini. The login script is part of the tcpip.cfg
file.
-
What happen to all of my scripts in slip.ini
then?
Custom will automatically convert them during
upgrade.
- Should
mult45.drv
be primary net or secondary net in WFW?
Some said primary and some said secondary, which is correct?
This has been a confusing question for lots
of people. Here is the rule: if it is an upgrade which means multxxx.drv
is set as primary net, then 4.5 will replace multxxx.drv
with mult45.drv and leave it as primary.
If it is a clean
installation, then it will become the "secondary net".
Notes:
If WFW is configured without workgroup networking -> primary
net <> wfwnet.drv, then mult45.drv will be the primary
net.
-
How much disk space do I need for an upgrade to Chameleon 4.5?
This depends on what product you have installed.
Setup counts the space that is used by the previous product and
deducts from the space that is required for the Chameleon 4.5
installation. The bytes left is the space needed for an upgrade.
-
If setup detects there is not enough free disk space for an upgrade,
could I increase the free space by deleting the files under netmanage
directory?
The answer is NO, because the space was already
counted in the upgrade as mentioned above.
-
To keep my previous ChameleonNFS group before an upgrade, can
I rename the group name?
The answer is no. If you really want to do
so, you also need to rename the name of the file CHAMNFS.GRP
under the windows directory and properly modify progman.ini.
Otherwise, after upgrading, the ChameleonNFS group can not be
created and all the icons will be copied to the group that is
currently active.
-
Why in some upgrades, are you prompted to input the serial number
while some others do not?
If upgrading from Demo, Sampler and Internet
Chameleon, it will prompt for the input of serial number.
-
Could NFS be unloaded automatically?
Starting from Chameleon NFS 4.5, NFS can be
unloaded automatically. But if you upgrade from ChamNFS 4.01 or
earlier versions, you still need to remove NFS from Windows Control
Panel.
