  1. What product enhancements have been made to Forum (formerly NewtNews) since v5.0?

Forum now provides the following additional features:

    • Multiple Server Connections
: Forum now supports connecting to various news servers simultaneously during your session. You can define the list of these news servers using the News Servers dialog box.
    • Outbox
Forum now uses an outbox, allowing you to post and reply to articles while you are offline, saving you connection costs.
    • Attachments
You can now attach multimedia files to your articles through MIME (Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extensions).
    • HTML Viewing
You can now view HTML formatted articles, as well as any text article, in standard HTML format. Viewing articles in HTML mode will show all image attachments inline, and display all URLs highlighted as links that you may follow. Navigating using links can be done either inside the article window, or with the WebSurfer browser. Use the View in HTML Mode option from the Settings menu to toggle between the default viewing modes, or use the View in HTML option in the view window's Article menu to change the mode for the current article. Use the Navigate Using Browser option from the Article menu to toggle between navigating using URL links in the article window or in the WebSurfer browser.
    • HTML Editing
You can create and edit HTML formatted articles using WebSpider. Such articles can include inline images and all other HTML features. Use the Edit in HTML Mode option from the Settings menu to toggle between the editing modes.
    • Address Books
For each News Server, Forum automatically creates an address book containing all the subscribed groups. Using the news groups addresses in the Address Books, you may send messages from the Z-Mail™ Pro application to subscribed news groups, as well as sending messages from Forum to e-mail addresses.
    • Signature Files
The Signature files from your Mail settings are now attached to outgoing articles.
    • Secure Forum
Secure Forum lets you post encrypted articles to specific Forum users. The encryption uses the DES algorithm, whose key is limited to a length of 40 bits. Users can exchange the key name and value via a special e-mail message.

      Other New Features

      *Two-pane view

      *Support server login authentication

*Automatic uudecoding, with the ability to view uuencoded files as attachments

      *Reassembly of broken messages

*Support for XOVER to improve performance

Note: You can start Forum by double-clicking on either the Forum icon (located in the Group Collaboration program group) or the NEWTNews icon (located in the Internet Access program group).

  2. Are there any known operational issues with Forum?

Here is a list of known operational issues with Forum:

    HTML Support

*By default, all articles are displayed in HTML view mode. To change the default mode, use the View in HTML Mode option from the Settings menu.

*In HTML view mode, images of type JPG and GIF will be displayed inline. Images of type BMP and TIFF, however, will show as regular attachments.

*In HTML view mode, some URL formats are not supported, and will not be displayed as links that may be followed. In particular, any URLs enclosed in any kind of brackets are not supported.

*When using HTML edit mode to forward an article with attachments, the attachments will not be visible while editing the article in WebSpider. They will, however, be attached to the message once you post it.

*Automatically uudecoded files cannot be forwarded when using the HTML edit mode. In Text edit mode, the original message, without the automatic uudecoding, will be forwarded.

*A Reply to Current Newsgroup in HTML edit mode defaults to Reply to All Newsgroups.

*The Bcc to myself and Attach signature options, as well as other display options are not supported in HTML mode.

*Replying to an HTML article may insert the original HTML source text in the article replied to.

*Encrypt/Decrypt text is not supported in HTML mode.
