If I close a shared application,
will I be able to open it again later?
1. Who is a member?
A member is someone that joins a session from
a client computer.
2. What are "access
rights"?
The rights assigned to a member to interact with
a shared application. Access right can be either full access, read
only, or pause.
3. What are "Full
Access" rights?
Access to view and interact with the shared application

Only" rights?
The member is only allowed to view the shared
application.
5. What is a
"Bulletin Board"?
OpSession bulletin boards are used to list all
the shared applications that are available to a member. The location
of the bulletin board is specified in the invitation tab under the
session properties window.
6. What is an OpSession
client?
An OpSession client is a computer that uses the
OpSession viewer to join an OpSession application sharing session.
7. What is an OpSession
host?
An OpSession host is a computer running the OpSession
server. The OpSession server shares local applications with OpSession
client members.
8. What is Remote
Access?
Remote Access is access to a host computer by
the session owner from a remote computer. From the OpSession Remote
Window you have access to the host computer and can use it as if
you were sitting in front of it. For example, you can start an OpSession
application sharing session, sharing applications with other members
while controlling the session from the remote computer.
9. How can I initiate
a session via e-mail?
Follow the steps outlined below to invite a member
to join a session via e-mail:
- Step 1
- In the Go window in the Mail Invitation Recipients
area, select the way the e-mail is sent to the member (TO, CC
or BCC).
- Step 2
- Type the e-mail address of the member (or
enter an address via the Addresses button).
- Step 3
- After entering the address in the text box,
click the Add button. The address will then appear in the list
box.
- Step 4
- Click OK. The Go window closes and the Control
window opens, showing the addresses to which you have sent mail.

What address book does OpSession use?
The Addresses button in the Go window opens a
Z-Mail Pro window in which you can enter an address. If a different
email application is used the Go window opens the mail window, from
which you are able to access that applications address book.
11. How do I initiate a
session using a Bulletin Board from my OpSession host?
This is done by specifying bulletin board in
the Go window. The available bulletin boards are specified in the
Invitation tab in the Session Properties Window.
12. How do I add
a member to a session by directly connecting to his computer?
Follow the steps outlined below to add a member
to a session by directly connecting to the members computer.
Note that the member must have the OpSession Viewer window open
and set to Wait for Calls.
Step 1
In the Go window in the Direct Connection to Remote hosts section,
specify the host address or the IP address of the member s
computer.
Step 2
After typing the address in the text box, click the Add button.
The address appears in the list box. The default TCP/IP port number
7100 is used for the connection. If you want to change this default,
add the port number after a colon " : " to the end of
the address.
Step 3
Click OK. This allows the member to join the session. The session
is then displayed in the OpSession Viewer window.
13. How do I join
a session when receiving an email invitation using ZMail?
The invited member receives an automated e-mail
message with an attachment. The e-mail message specifies who started
the session and explains how to join the session. Open the attachment
to open the OpSession Viewer window and join the session.

How do I join a session when receiving an email invitation and I
am not using ZMail ?
You'll receive an email with an attached file. The attached file
has an extension of *.ops. Open the attachment to open the OpSession
Viewer window and join the session.
15. How do I join
a session using my web browser?
With the appropriate access rights, you can join a session by navigating
to the OpSession Host's URL.
Example: http://lizzie.netmanage.com/opsession
After connecting to the OpSession host computer,
you'll see its private bulletin board, including details of
the currently shared applications.

How do I join a session by connecting to the host computer?
You can directly connect to the host computer to join a session
independently. Open your OpSession Viewer window and click on the
Connect button. In the window that is displayed, enter the IP address
or the fully qualified host name of the host computer in the Host
Name text box and click OK to connect to the host.
17. How do I share an
application running on my system?
To share an application that is running on your system:
Step 1.
From the Go window, drag-and-drop the icon into the application
that you want to share. The name of the application is displayed
in the Share Applications List at the bottom of the Go window.
Step 2
Click OK. The Go window closes and the Control window opens.
Note that you can share more than one application.
The Control window displays all shared applications.

How can I chat with a member ?
After establishing a connection with a member, you can
chat with each other:
Step 1
Click on the Chat button in the OpSession toolbar to open the
chat window. The chat window opens automatically when you receive
a chat message from a member if the option "Auto open when
chat message arrives" is selected.
Step 2
Type what you want to say in the lower text box.
Step 3
Click on the "envelope" on the right or press the
Enter key to transmit the message. The message is displayed in the
top window and transmitted to the member.
Incoming messages are also displayed in the
top window. All messages in the top window are prefixed by the name
of the sending computer.
19. How do I remove
a member from a session ?
While a session is active, the members of the session are listed
in the Control window. To remove a member from the session, select
the member and click on the Stop button. The member is removed from
the session.
20. How do I restrict
the access rights of the member to Read Only ?
While a session is active, the names of members are displayed
in the Control window. To allow a member to view the shared application
but not to update it, select the member and click on the Read Only
button.

How do I put a member on hold?
While a session is active, the names of members are displayed
in the Control window. To temporarily suspend a member from the
session, select the member and click Pause. The member will be kept
temporarily on hold and will not be able to interact with any of
the shared applications. When the member moves the cursor over the
application, the cursor changes to a circle with a line through
it.
22. How do I give
a member full access rights?
While a session is active, the names of the members are displayed
in the Control window. To allow a member full access to the shared
application, select the member and click on the Full Access button.
Note that full access means the member can view and update any of
the shared applications.
23. How can I stop an application
from being shared?
While a session is active, the names of the shared applications
are displayed in the Control window. To stop an application from
being shared, select the application and click on the "stop"
button . The application is no longer part of the session.
24. How do I end a session
?
To end a session, select the session in the Control window and
click Stop. The session is no longer shared and the Control window
closes. All the applications that were part of the session remain
open on your desktop. However, the members in the session cannot
access them. When you end a session, the members receive the following
message: "Session disconnected by the remote side".
25. How do I access
my computer from a remote location?
Remote access allows you to continue working on your computer
from a different physical location. Follow the steps outlined below
to establish remote access.
Step 1
On the host computer- Set OpSession to Remote Access mode by
clicking on the Remote OpSession button in the toolbar. The following
message is displayed: "Your machine is remote enabled".
A remote access session can be initiated now. The host computer
must be up and running for the duration of the remote access session.
Step 2
On the client computer- access the host computer either by:
A) Web browser. Example: http://www.company.com/opsession
Or
B) Connecting to the computer from the OpSession
Viewer window on the client computer. The OpSession Remote window
opens for you on the client computer allowing you to control the
session. Click on the Remote Access button in the OpSession Viewer
window. Next, enter the IP address in the displayed window, or the
fully qualified host name of the host computer in the Host Name
text box and click OK to connect to the host. Once connected, the
OpSession Remote window is displayed, giving you control of the
host computer.
26.
How do I determine the session properties?
Use the Session Properties window to determine the properties
that apply to every participant joining a session. Once you set
the properties, they remain as the default for all future sessions
until you change them again. The Session Properties window is only
available before a session.
27. How do I define
the name of the session and what are the available naming styles?
Open the Session properties window and use the Naming tab to
define the name of the session. The session naming style is the
name displayed for the session in the Control window.
The available naming styles are:
Auto-Naming: The name of the session
is the computer name and the name of the first application shared.
Predefined: The name of the session
is taken from the Default Session Description text box.
Manual with Default: The predefined
text is used. If you want to change the name of the session from
the predefined text, enter a name for the session.
28. How do I define
the TCP/IP port number that OpSession runs on?
Open the Session Properties window and use the Communication
tab to define the port number. The default TCP/IP Port number is
7000. This value can be between 6000 and 9000.
29. How do I
choose a Default Compression Policy?
Open the Session Properties window and use the Communication
tab to define the compression policy. The default compression options
are:
Never: No compression is performed.
Smart: Compression is performed only
if necessary and is dependent on the connection quality or properties.
This is the default.
Always: Compression is always performed.
30. How can I secure
my sessions?
There are 3 ways to secure sessions:
Security Option 1.
Define permission for session members (full access ,read only
or pause).
Security Option 2.
Open the Session Properties window and use the Members tab
to define a password. The member can access the application after
typing a password. The password determines whether the member can
access the application with Full Access or Read Only rights. You
can assign a password for both Full Access and Read Only levels.
Security Option 3.
Sending a member a private e-mail invitation.
31. Can I limit the
number of session members?
Open the Session Properties window and use the Members tab to
define the number of session members. Enter the maximum number in
the text box.
32. What does
the message "Session disconnected by the remote side"
indicate?
This message indicates that the host has been disconnected from
the client computer for one of the following reasons:
Reason 1
The host computer ended the session.
Reason 2
The members rights were denied by the host.
Reason 3
Poor network connection.
Reason 4
The limit of session members has been exceeded.
33.
How can I share applications or participate in a session through
a firewall ?
Using OpSession through a firewall requires you to open a specific
port. The default port for sharing applications is 7000 and can
be changed at any time. The default port for direct invitation and
remote access is 7100.
34. As the owner of the
host computer, how can I take control of the shared application?
At any time during a session, you can take control of the application
by moving the mouse. Even if the Members have full access rights
to the application, you have priority. While you are moving your
mouse, you prevent Members from interacting with the shared application.
35. Why cant I share
Network Neighborhood ?
Network Neighborhood cant be shared by OpSession for security
reasons (it's really Windows Explorer), same as in File Manager,
Explorer, and Win 97 Internet Explorer.
36. Can the owner of
the host computer know when a new member joins the session?
Yes. You can either A) Look in the control window to see information
about the members in the session and also when members join the
session, or, B) Open the Session Properties window and use the "members
" tab to choose "Beep When New Member Joins". You
will then be alerted by a beep each time a new member joins the
session.
37. How is the chat name
defined?
The default chat name is the system logon user name as listed
in the registrations.
38. Why do I receive the
following error message: "The OpSession version you have does
not support color palette less than 8 bit (256 color)
"
The OpSession application supports 256 colors and higher. OpSession
does not support 16 colors. If you receive this message, select
Control Panel/Display/Settings and set the colors to 256 color or
higher. When working with more than 256 color, OpSession will downgrade
the colors to 256 color.
39. While uninstalling
OpSession, I receive the following error message: "Some elements
could not be removed", what should I do?
The "elements" that cannot be removed are *.log files
in the OpSession directory, These files must be removed manually.
40. Which Web Server
applications can be selected when installing OpSession ?
Microsofts Personal Web Server for Windows 95, Microsoft
IIS, and NetManages original Web Server. The appropriate CGI
files will be installed in the cgi-bin directories of the selected
Web Server.
41. Which firewalls
can OpSession pass through?
OpSession can pass through all firewalls, except proxy systems.
42. How can I connect
from my machine and local firewall to a remote machine through its
firewall ?
To pass through the firewalls, you'll need to send a direct
invitation. The host will connect to the OpSession viewer that is
open and waiting for an invitation.
43. When does OpSession use
the http protocol?
OpSession uses the http protocol to build the first page that
is loaded when browsing to the hosts internet URL.
44. Why cant
I see the previously shared applications when I enter the "Go"
window ?
The Share Applications List only displays the shared applications
while the Go window is open. If you close the Go window and reopen
it to share more applications, The previously selected shared applications
are not listed in the Share Applications List. However, the Control
Window displays all the shared applications.
45. Why cant I share
my Word 6.0 application ?
Word 6.0 is a 16 bit application. Only 32 bit applications can
be shared via OpSession.
46. What do I do if
the OpSession installation launches the wrong SETUP.EXE ? Example:
installation launches Netscapes SETUP.EXE instead of OpSessions
SETUP.EXE.
If the wrong SETUP.EXE file is launched, or any other problem
occurs while running installation, delete all the files from the
TEMP directory and reinstall OpSession.
47. I've installed OpSession
but I can't connect to a session via Internet Explorer. Why?
During installation, OpSession looks for all browsers installed
on your machine. OpSession installs plug-ins for all browsers it
finds. If for some reason OpSession does not find Netscape or IE,
the plug-ins are installed in a default directory . To correct this,
reinstall OpSession, (after you uninstall the previous installation),
and make sure the installation installs the plug-ins in the IE or
Netscape directory.
48. Do I have to purchase
different diskettes for installing OpSession on both my NT and Windows
95 machines?
The OpSession package can be use for installing OpSession on
both NT 4.0 and Windows 95 platforms.
49. Why do I see a
green square covering part of the shared application ?
OpSession shows the shared application and screen as it is on
the host computer. If a non shared application covers the shared
application (opened on top of the shared application in the host
computer), a green square will appear on the client computer.
50. Why do I have *.ops files
in my sessions directory when there are no sessions running?
The files in the sessions directory should be deleted when no
sessions are running. If there are files there, they are probably
leftovers from sessions that were not terminated normally.
51. Is there a time limit
for sessions to run, or can I join a session whenever I want?
There is no limit to the time for OpSession sessions to run
. A member can join the session at any time.
52. If I close a shared
application, will I be able to open it again later?
When a member closes a shared application, the application can
no longer be shared. The host will have to re-share the application.
